Voted Best of Hipcamp California 2018

Our furnished canvas tents are pitched on a wooded ridge topping 400 acres of sustainable, family-owned timberland. Come unplug and enjoy the seclusion, or indulge in the nearby luxuries of California’s Wine Country.

Enjoy a picnic, hike trails, stargaze, or relax by a fire. Fifteen minutes away, downtown Healdsburg offers fine dining, shopping, wineries, breweries... Ready for an impromptu game of courtyard bocce? Canoeing down the Russian River? We’ll help you plan for as much or as little as you wish.

Built upon handsome redwood decks made with the property’s own timber, we set out to create a camping experience that balanced simplicity and comfort. We’ve thoughtfully selected every site for its views, privacy, and ease of access. There’s no wrong choice!

Inside every homey tent you’ll find: sturdy beds with soft, plush bedding, state-of-the-art mattresses, leisurely seating, rugs, lighting, nightstands and utility racks. Aside from the natural beauty surrounding every tent, you’ll have your very own furnished deck, access to fire pits and wood*, picnic tables, grills, refuse bins, wash sinks with running water, and portable toilets. *See details.

We love having kids at Shelterwood and encourage families to let the little ones explore. We strive to maintain a natural California Redwood forest, which does also include natural hazards. Steep terrain, poison oak, rattle snakes, and yellow jackets are some of the hazards potentially found on property. Most guests have no interactions with any of these, but we do like to remind everyone that we are in a very natural setting. We expect parents to hold their children to a high standard of behavior and respect for other guests and the surroundings. Rough and unruly behavior, running, yelling, shouting, or disturbing private areas such as neighbors’ sites, tents, and decks is not allowed. We ask parents to watch their children and ensure they’re complying with our rules and policies.

Shelterwood is a dog-friendly property. It’s mandatory to let us know at the time of booking if dogs will be joining. We do not take responsibility for the actions of your dog(s). Please clean up after your dog(s). All dogs must remain on a leash. You are responsible for injuries or damage that your dog(s) may cause. Dogs are not allowed on any bedding or furniture. Any owners found not in compliance will be asked to remove the dog(s) from the property and/or charged a $300 cleaning fee. Other animals are not allowed.

We love a good campfire and are proud to offer pits and firewood as one of Shelterwood’s features, but safety is always the top priority for people as well as the land. Fires are only allowed on low-danger days and we require all guests to comply with safety rules. We are not responsible for any harm caused to you or other guests. To find out if fires are allowed during your reservation dates please reach out.
